Lift Your Mood contains practical and effective techniques to help you overcome symptoms of mild-moderate depression.
It could also be helpful if you are supporting someone with depression. Many of the ideas and techniques are based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which research shows is particularly effective in treating depression. It also draws on ideas from Counselling for Depression (CfD), another effective treatment for depression. Both of these therapies are widely used in healthcare settings.
You should seek support from your GP or a mental health professional if any of the following apply:
- Your depression is so severe that it is seriously affecting your daily life
- You are having thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life
- You have suffered a trauma and are experiencing flashbacks, nightmares and an over-active ‘startle’ response
The guide will help you to “be your own therapist” but don’t expect instant results. To be successful you will need to set aside some time each day to work through the book and practise what you are learning. But by sticking with it your mood should improve.
