“Managing your Anxiety” contains practical and effective techniques to help you reduce your anxiety. It may also be helpful if you are supporting someone with anxiety.
Many of the techniques are based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which research shows as particularly effective in managing anxiety or depression.
This guide will help you to “be your own therapist” if you have mild to moderate anxiety. However, you should seek support as soon
as possible from your GP or a mental health professional if you’re experiencing any of the following:
- You have suffered a trauma and have flashbacks, nightmares and/or an over-active “startle” response
- Your anxiety is so severe that it is seriously affecting your daily life
- You have recently had thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life
You will need to set aside some time each day to work through the guide and practise what you are learning. If you were given physio exercises for a physical health problem, you would do them if you wanted to get better.
Think of the guide as “physio exercises” for your mind and emotions.
